Carefree or Careless?

A plastic bag falls from a truck
and no one seems to notice.
Trash litters the Earth, pervasive,
most of us barely notice.
The mind filters out what it cannot handle,
and what it does not want to see.
We don't want to know
that our world is crumbling,
or that it's our fault.
