Editors' Notes: June 2006
Welcome to the debut issue of The Green Room! This space will usually contain some sort of guide to the current issue, or what we've done differently each month. Right now, though, there's not much to say about that, so I'll just give you all a bit of information about us in general and what we want to do with ourselves here.
A while back, I said to my husband (now business partner!), "Let's start a music magazine. But not just any music magazine, I want it to be different than everything else out there," so we brainstormed on this for a while, and he had the brilliant idea to combine music with environmental issues. Other groups have done this (notably Reverb, whose Campus Consciousness tour with Guster we attended in mid-April), but they're hitting it from different angles than we plan to. So here we are, stepping behind the scenes, so to speak.
Musically, we're dedicated to getting exposure to bands who aren't so heavily in the mainstream. This includes indies, bands who are just starting out, recently signed bands, etc. We're a small fish right now, and we want to cater to other small fish out there. (Speaking of which, if you are part of or know of such a band, see our Contacts page!) We are committed to quality. If we wouldn't listen to it ourselves, we won't cover it in our magazine.
On the environmental side of things, part of the reason we're doing this online is so that we don't have to kill a bunch of trees to print something that most people would read through and then toss. The Internet gives us the chance to get the message out there - and archive it for future reference - without the use of paper. We want to keep the public informed about environmental concerns, and we have also created a place where we can share our own ideas of how to make the world a little greener.
Above all, we believe in being honest with our readers. Each month, we'll be outlining our changes and what to expect in upcoming issues, so no one gets caught off-guard by any overhauls we might go through. We're new to this, so please bear with us while we learn the ropes. I anticipate that things are only going to get better and better as we go along.
Feedback is always welcomed and appreciated. We recognize that not everyone can afford magazine subscriptions, and as such we have opted to make all of our material free to all readers. If you like what you read here, please spread the word and consider making a small donation as you are able.
Don't forget to check out our "Coming Soon" page for the latest in what to expect from us!
