I feel your strength in the bones of the land
In the spine of the hazy mountains as they touch the sky
Your skin stretches taught and green
Over the earth, your tears fill the waterways
That bring life to every thing
Blossom dimples cover you in spring
When you are but a maiden
Summer finds you dressed in the shadowed verdigris
Of an ancient forest, quiet as a cathedral
In autumn you play the harlot, dressed in pagan hues
To chase the cold winter away, for another day
As November's frost sprinkles fairy glamour
On the common pumpkins of October
You reach for your snowy coverlet
Kiss the world goodnight
Tucking us in till sweet spring breezes
Tousle our hair once again
