Who We Are

Dawn St John
Executive Editor / Creative Director

Recently, Dawn completed her Bachelor's degree in Writing and Communications, allowing her the time to start new projects such as this one.  She has always had something of an affinity for music, enjoying involvement with drama club and several choruses, as well as being a "band geek" in her high school's trumpet section.  Though singing is the only of these she's kept up with throughout the years, she is a lover of all things musical - including her husband.
Growing up near Ithaca, NY, it was almost guaranteed that she'd leave the area with a little bit of "green" in her.  She frequently jokes that she's more Ithacan having since she moved away than she ever was while she lived there.  She is a firm proponent of recycling and conservationism.  It's not at all uncommon for her to pick up trash while out walking, and carry it with her until she finds a trash can in which to deposit it, a habit inspired by stories of her grandfather, who often coordinated neighborhood cleanups with his Boy Scout troop.
In Green Room terms, she is our executive editor and creative director.  Nothing goes to "print" without her proofreading eyes, and she guides the creative vision behind the look of the website.  She is also primarily responsible for maintaining and creating contacts within the music and green communities and for writing a number of the articles found within our "pages".  Most commonly, it is she who listens to small radio stations for band ideas and scours the web to keep current with environmental news occurrences, though her articles tend more toward the opinion-oriented when she addresses such issues.
"The best thing about having started this magazine," she says, "is that it combines everything we both feel passionately about: music, writing, and the environment."

Oliver St John
Managing Director / Media Editor

Oliver is responsible for maintaining this site, as well as writing and research for some of its features. He has been a musician for 20 years, and a lover of music still longer. He began playing guitar at the age of twelve, harboring the typical dreams of rock and roll stardom. While none of the bands he played in ever "made it", he still loves to jam with just about anyone who will let him. Some people even seem to think he's quite good.
Oliver grew up in Milan, Italy, where he gained a great deal of musical and environmental knowledge, as well as learning to build websites. He subsequently moved to the United States for school. He now holds an Associate's degree in Liberal Arts and a Bachelor's degree in Writing Studies.
While he has frequently hoped to put his musical knowledge to good use, The Green Room is his first venture into music publishing.
